Dororo (2019) is my most favorite anime of all time. It's MAPPA's anime series adaptation of the dark historical action fantasy manga of the same name written by Osamu Tezuka in the 1960s.

The Land of Ishikawa had been facing continuous bouts of droughts and tense relations with neighboring lands. To save this land and its people, Lord Kagemitsu Daigo turned to the help of demons. His son was born lacking numerous crucial body parts. No arms, legs, eyes, ears, a nose or even skin—his body was divided among 12 demons that gave Daigo's land its blessings. Satisfied, Daigo ordered to dispose of this monstrous birth. Yet through a miracle, the baby survives.

Dororo is about Hyakkimaru, a disabled ronin who was more wood than flesh, as he travels Sengoku-era Japan alongside an orphaned child named Dororo, on a quest to defeat the demons that ate his body. Does a single life outweigh that of thousands? What's the difference between a human and a demon? Its central theme revolves around a teleological vs deontological conflict in morality. It's a really good story about war, love and humanity.

There's so much that I love about it. I think I will try to make a page about everything I have to say about it.
