Necrophilia
lu: 27 May 2025Necrophilia is formally defined as the sexual attraction to corpses. But for the sake of this page and what I am to detail in it, "necrophilia" refers to any sexual or romantic activity involving corpses. Basically I am referring to necrophilia the kink and not necrophilia the paraphilia. Everything I romanticize about necrophilia only applies to fictional instances and never anything real.
The loveful (love stories and erotica)
When people die, their corpses are essentially objects. Logically this is true as corpses aren't able to think rational thought. Yet ironically, necrophilia is culturally taboo—this is just as true and valid. And it is from this contradiction where the appeal comes from.
It is love that allows the corpse to retain its face as the person. The existence of a corpse is always accompanied by what "was". No "corpse" would conceptually exist without its past of being alive. And to consider that life is to consider the person, and therefore to think of such is to love.
Death plainly reduces the person into an object. Necrophilia is the rejection of that truth in the name of love and it embraces the inequality of the relationship between the living and the corpse because that too is just the nature of love.
The forms of love at play in necrophilic love stories are usually grief and extreme devotion or loyalty. Any passion that can bring someone to want a rotting corpse is love, even if the form it manifests in is damaging and hateful. (The opposite of love is not hate. Instead the opposite of love is apathy.)
The loveless (funny gore porn)
Alternatively there is the more loveless form of necrophilia, where the corpse is really just an object. This form is okay but I think it's more funny than insightful. Though I think truly loveless interactions do not exist. Anything defined as "loveless" only means that it mainly caters to lighter, short-term or "lower" pleasures like to incite laughter or arousal.
Instances of necrophilia in fiction
