Detail Cosmetics Satin Luxe Lite (shade: Black Cherry Soda)
When I bought my third Chu Chu Beauty Heart Blush Duo I thought "ok, this brown lipstick will be my last, I promise" only to find myself obsessively rewatching swatch videos of this sheer lipstick. I don't quite have a tinted lip balm in my inventory (ChapStick isn't quite tinted) and sometimes I just want a little bit of color on my lips. My mattes are to jeans as tinted balms are to sweatpants.
The price for Detail's Satin Luxe Lite dropped to be just as much as Nivea's lip balm which makes the Satin Luxe Lite seem the better deal. I expected it to be a lip balm but fancier and perhaps stronger color payoff. Though frankly, the fact that there was only 1.9 g of the product wasn't very attractive, but at least the packaging was.
Still I bought it because many people were saying that the shade Black Cherry Soda was a dupe for Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. Hearing that really interested me but I didn't expect much. I just wanted something sheer. Choosing a color was difficult since I already had a red, orange, brown, and I didn't want another pink. Swatched on my arm, Black Cherry Soda is a deep cherry berry shade— strong red hue with a fair blue-ness to it like the color of a bruise. The pink of my lips however peeks through which makes it appear more mauve. It's quite cool-toned on me, and the sheen it has makes it look quite a bold lip on me, ironically, considering I wanted a sheer lipstick for "no makeup" looks.
Surprisingly the Satin Luxe Lite is less like a lip balm and more of a lip tint in stick form. It stains so the color lasts quite long, and unfortunately it's a little drying for a sheer lipstick.
I like it but I am tempted to buy another shade that's actually a nude color.
