Papers, Please

That time I was playing a lot of Papa’s games like Donuteria and Cheeseria, but I didn’t like the mobile To Go versions at all. I think the PC versions are way superior in terms of controls (?) game design (?) I don’t know the term, but I think having to cycle through all the toppings just to find what you need and having to move the food itself instead of the shaker or drizzle is really odd and lame.

Anyway, at the same time there was this game called “That’s Not My Neighbor” that was trending, so everyone was reminded of Papers, Please for an itty bitty amount of time. I remember watching a video essay about it ages ago. I think it was by Super Eyepatch Wolf? I really like his videos but I can’t find his Papers, Please video anymore. Maybe he deleted it? Or was it by a different Youtuber? Dunno

But anyway I found this game to be so fun and chill. I’d say it’s like a “cozy game” to me, which is another thing that got trendy some years ago I think. I appreciated the game not having any music for most of its gameplay, and the sound effects are really satisfying to listen to.

I find it difficult to break any rules actually… I got Ending 20 first since I was such a good boy. And I never want my family to be anything less than OK. And I’m glad I was able to afford the expensive crayon set for my son :D !

Of course I let Elisa through, and anyone else who needed through. I can afford it! It’s so fun to have money actually.

Cars 2

I thought this movie was really cool when I first watched it when I was smaller. Then I turned 13 years old and had that uber-critical eye for movies or whatever. I don’t remember what I thought of it but I do remember seeing a couple videos on YouTube that say it sucks. Though I didn’t really watch them because I didn’t care much, and I didn’t really believe it because I genuinely remember Cars 2 to be sooo fun.

So now I decided to give it a little rewatch and I was right. The movie is also more brutal than I thought.

I really liked this scene. He just exploded but imagine how that is for cars..!!

After watching the movie, I checked out the comments on those Cars 2 Sucks videos on YouTube (I didn’t watch the videos) and it turns out it wasn’t a good Cars *sequel*. Huhm. So all the outrage was just clickbait because the truth is it was truly a swag movie. A lot of the commenters seem to say so. I do agree it would make more sense to label it as a spin-off rather than a sequel.

But I’d also see people saying McQueen and Mater were flat characters throughout the whole movie, which is something one would think if they didn’t watch the movie. They were both pretty cool. Not super impressive but the drama was really entertaining, kept me on my toes or something.

Anyway, sentient cars are cool. After this I downloaded the old Thomas the Tank Engine TV show from the Internet Archive.

Cells at Work! WHITE

This is another spin-off of Cells at Work, this time giving more focus on the neutrophils because they really are the best parts of the franchise. Here we follow Band Cell as he trains to be a neutrophil, guided by U-1146 and co.

I really liked the first few chapters, 1 through 5. Neutrophil tag is a really fun concept!! Chapter 2 is probably my favorite chapter because of that.

It’s nice to be able to see more of U-4989, U-2626 and U-2048. U-2048 stood out the most among them all though, which kind of sucks because I like him the least. I wish there was more of U-2626.

I also really liked the rivalry between the killer T cells and the neutrophils. I think Band Cell being friends with Naive T Cell was really cute and funny.

Unfortunately the later chapters got lamer and lamer.. it got more “fanservice-y”. They’d show less of neutrophil and cell jobs and more of the neutrophils doing regular human things. It would be fun if it were actually related at least a little bit to training Band Cell but it was more of tropey “hot springs episode” and “boy band episode” which I didn’t like.

Cells at Work! LADY

This is one of Cells at Work!’s more lesser known spin-offs. It focuses more on female-specific bodily functions. I read that it’s catering to adult women so I was looking forward to it but unfortunately it sucks ass.

First of all, the main character is a male macrophage. That’s rare since macrophages are pretty much shown to be only females in the original material, but it can be interesting too. But what I don’t like is how the male macrophage is literally just a regular butler pretty boy. I might have liked him more if he were a woman that presented male, honestly. But even so, his character design does not at all hint that this character is meant to be an anthropomorphized cell. You could argue that Cells at Work designs are pretty bad at this overall but at least the macrophage maid outfit has that blobby looking hat.

And he is literally just a Sebastian Michaelis knock-off. A lot of this manga seems to be inspired by Black Butler in general. The macrophage MC is a pretty boy butler obsessed with keeping shit in order, and he has goofy sidekicks that are just simply not good at that which annoys him, and he’s super devoted to his “Lady” (who is basically the human he lives in). The main characters also happen to live in a mansion? And there are churches and shit. I’d be interested to know what a church-like building is representing in the body system but the manga shows literally nothing about it other than being some shelter for a statue of the “Lady.” All these totally gave me the impression that it’s really trying hard to appeal to women by being Black Butler, but like really cheaply and shittily.

The writing is also pretty ass. And that’s compared to Cells at Work. I don’t even remember since it’s been a long time by the time I’m writing this and I don’t want to check again. This LADY spin-off is way ass. I didn’t bother to read the rest.

I did reach the chapter regarding menstruation though which I was looking forward to the most. And I just think the way they depicted it was lame as fuck. And lazy. Like they didn’t even bother interpreting the uterus into some environment. It all just happened in a pitch black room with regular looking ass maids. Come on dude.

Mean Girls (2024)

My friend and I were having a sleepover and she asked to hatewatch Mean Girls the Musical the Movie and since I couldn’t think of anything else to watch I had to concede.

I’m personally a little familiar with the songs from the original Mean Girls musical and I’ve watched the original Mean Girls movie but that’s it. We both knew nothing about the 2024 musical movie but we’ve heard a lot that it sucked and we “wanted” to see it for ourselves. We watched it at fmoviesz.to at 720p quality camcorded footage which kinda enhanced the hell aspect of the experience.

We ended up barely paying attention mainly cuz we can’t even hear what they were saying because of the quality. But a few things she and I pointed out:

The singing sucked. Like what the fuck did they do to Stupid with Love? it’s one of the best songs in the musical but they decided to have Cady whisper it to us. what! Also Regina sings in cursive lolololololololol also I didn’t listen to the other singers, didn’t care. Maybe I would have listened if they didn’t shittify the instrumentals too.
Their outfits were lame like what the fuck was that tie-dye hippie shit Regina was wearing on, I think, Wednesday? That outfit was head to toe pink like wut, I thought in the original movie Regina wore only 1 pink piece because the rules she sets are below her. lame
I think the Someone Gets Hurt part would have been way better if Regina hovered really closely to Cady’s face instead of the boy (girl yuri)
Whyyyyyy the social mediaaaa I mean I get it, make it modern. But I don’t know, maybe this isn’t necessarily the movie’s fault but I hate it and I think it’s sooo lame. Like whenever they pull out the fucking tiktok frame with the likes and follow buttons and shit and start flashing 0.5 secs of various fake tiktoks it just feels so damn dystopian. Like I see this doomscroll shortform video thing all the time (I need saving from youtube shorts and reddit). Why the fuck are you putting it in my godamn fucking movie!
The acting was lame. Why they be moving like cartoon characters!! I swear they fucking got Karen doing silly faces, outright instagram influencer whose audience is aged 5-9 style.
The writing was also lame? The dialogue is literally them saying shit outright. Fuck subtext? It becomes the funniest pathetic shit ever if you consider their inclusion of Tiktok and shit into this. Just spell everything out cuz the audience’s brains are fried lalamao!
Can’t say anything about the plot writing though cuz I didn’t pay attention. We did notice that they skipped or change a lot of stuff from the movie. Can’t remember though, nor do we really care, so. My friend says the musical movie writing was bad though

Heathers the Musical

I finally got myself to sit through the whole thing and finish Heathers because honestly Dead Girl Walking was the only thing keeping me away from finishing the whole musical. Who knew all those years I just had to skip a couple minutes forward?

The only musical I’ve ever been into was Legally Blonde and I’ve watched that like 6 times now. Recently I checked out the Matilda the Musical movie but I didn’t really like it so I went searching for another musical. I came across “illegal Heathers” and watched it and it was funny. But then coincidentally later that night my friend sent a link to the Off-Broadway version of Heathers with English subs so yayy I watched that one

I liked it and it was fun. I like how more disastrous everything got on the later half of the musical. Some of the songs I really liked are:

Our Love is God
Shine a Light (and the reprise)
Meant to be Yours
Seventeen

I liked the love story between Veronica and JD. Our Love is God is probably one of my favorites for its sweet and evil emo love or something like that. God complex whatever. I also think that society line in re:Dead Girl Walking was really funny the way JD said it. SOCIETY!

The JD in the Off-Broadway version was played by Ryan McCartan and I kinda prefer his interpretation of JD better than Jaime Muscato from the West End version. I think Jaime’s singing was weird and sometimes I felt he was overplaying the edgy aspect like comically (note: I’ve only seen him in the Freeze your Brain and Meant to be Yours numbers, both I didn’t finished because he was weird) (it made me flashback to a funny cringe moment from my classmate in 7th grade).

Matilda the Musical (2022)
