Detail Cosmetics Satin Luxe Butter Tint (shade: Shortcake)
I was able to snatch another deal putting this lipstick at pretty much 50% off. As I've said, I wanted another sheer shade, something more nude this time. I had four options to choose from: another Satin Luxe Lite in the shade Soda Pop, or I can try Detail's Satin Luxe Butter Tints this time, which had the shades Biscuit, Brown Sugar and Shortcake.
It was difficult to find swatching videos for these shades. I generally consider how lighting and the model's skin tone affect a color swatch but there just wasn't enough in my opinion, especially of Shortcake which is the shade I was interested in the most. I was trying to find a shade that was similar to my Glass Stain in the shade Naked since it's basically ran out. Eventually I gave up, trusted my gut and bought Shortcake since the bright orange interested me.
I hated it when I first got it. I thought my warm yellow undertone would neutralize the orange-ness and turn it a bit redder since that's how orangey colors worked on me but Shortcake turned out exactly how they described it: a bright orange. I'd say it's as bright and bold as my Nichido Chill Pill and I thought the bright orange made me look like a duck clown.
I made my mom try it on and it looked good on her. I think anything looks good on her because she's old and is too whimsical to care much about undertones and such. If I end up not liking a shade, I'd give it to my mom. I decided to give Shortcake a couple more chances anyway since I wanted to keep it.
And lo and behold, I ended up liking it a lot more. There's been a shift in my preferences in general I think. I'm no longer shying away from bolder colors and finishes. The bright orange just looks neon in artificial light. It's way better in sunlight. It's crazy I'd even say I prefer it over Maple Candy.
